Breakfast. It’s said to be the most important meal of the day.  I don’t know if that’s true, or not, but I do know that if you don’t have any breakfast offerings in your location, you are missing the boat! The day has come that convenience store retailers have found it necessary to provide a robust food service offering in order to not only survive, but to thrive. People are in a rush. They need fast, portable options for their morning commute, on the way to after-school sports or simply while traveling. There are offerings for every type of appetite and taste-bud.

A survey by global consulting firm, AlixPartners, finds that foodservice products such as prepared foods, hot/cold/frozen beverages, etc. is the number one driver for consumer purchases at the c-store level at a 27% share, while packaged beverages followed with 17% and cigarettes at 13%. That is a HUGE share of your business! You won’t make nearly the margins on the other categories that you will on the power of foodservice.

Here are some ideas for your deli’s pastry options that are simple, delicious ways to boost your morning sales. You don’t have to go to pastry school to serve up something delicious.

We met in our test kitchen with the experts from Rich’s Food Service.  They demonstrated for us the simple steps to creating your own proprietary donut program  that is as tasty as any national donut chain. You can also set your program on high with the beautiful, heated pastry case through the Suga’Mae’s program.

Heat, glaze, top and serve.
That’s it! You don’t need fancy fryers or equipment.  A simple countertop oven will do.
These Rich’s donuts are par-baked and only need warming, a dunk in a glaze and a sprinkle (or three,)  if you so choose, and you are in business.  The experts from Rich’s called it, “Churching them up.” I love that description!

These are some of the “masterpieces” we concocted in our test kitchen.
